Problems with disk space in my ssd
« on: December 31, 2019, 12:58:42 pm »
So basically I'm not sure what is causing it but I have a 256 gb ssd split into 2 drive (C: and D:) but the D: drive only has 24 gbs so the rest is stored in the C: drive. Now the problem is, I don't know where files are coming from but I have only 2 games installed right now which is csgo and rocket league that take up a total of 30 gbs but it says that I have 112 gbs free of 212 gb in my C: drive. Is there any way to get rid of some space? I've tried disk clean up, going through my csgo map files/texture files/models/materials files, I've already compressed my C: drive before, and I've gone through ctrl panel and gotten rid of everything that was for sure taking up a lot of space.

If anyone could help I would love you forever <3

Do you have anything on your D: or is it just a partition for 'recovery'

This is all it is and all I have in it. I've never put anything in my D: drive at all. Also the recycle bin in there isn't my actual recycle bin btw.

Following both of these should free up a bit of space

https://www.msftnext.com/shrink-hibernation-file-windows-10-reduce-size/ (I'd recommend doing 50%)

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/how-to-manage-virtual-memory-pagefile-windows-10,36929.html (If you have 16GB or more of RAM, I'd set to 4GB max with how small your SSD is, if you only have 8GB I'd leave it where it is)

Once your done with both of those, run command prompt as an administrator and run the following command:
Code: [Select]
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Hope that helps.

all things considered ted kaczynski is pretty poggers

2nd one definitely helped but my pc is a bit slower which is fine but the first one didn't work for me. 112 gb to 124 gb free.

Oh yeah and also if anyone else has somethings that can help like this, please do post.

If you haven't rebooted since you did the first fix you wouldn't see any changes from that

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

No prob! I deal with a lot of cheap laptops with small SSDs so I end up having to do this quite regularly.
