Some new measures have been put in place to prevent banned players from evading and joining our servers.
- !vpncheck command.
- Added a F2P + VPN filter.
!vpncheckThis command is available for admins SA+. It uses an API to check if players are on VPNs, proxies, or otherwise hosted connections.
There are three possible responses which an admin can receive after VPN checking a player.
Good - The player is not on a VPN. They are connecting from a residential or business IP address.
Non-Residential - The player is definitely connecting via VPN/proxy/host. If a player is
suspected to be ban evading, you can ban them.
Inconclusive - It cannot be determined if the player is on a VPN, or a good IP address. This means that a positive occurred, but it could be false. Pay attention to these players and handle at your discretion.
The command for this functionality is described below:
sm_vpncheck - Checks if a player is using a VPN.
NOTE: Using a VPN is
not against our rules. This tool is to help you identify players who may be evading bans.
Player FilterWe will no longer be allowing F2P accounts to connect to our servers
if they are using a VPN. Regular F2P accounts will still be able to connect, as will all admins.
The filtering plugin detects if a player is F2P, as well as checks if they are using a VPN. If they meet both conditions, the detection is logged and they are kicked from the server until they turn the VPN off.
This is not 100% accurate, it will not false-positive, but it may miss players on some connections.
A whitelisting feature and cooresponding forum-based web interface has been implemented. Players who require a whitelist will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
